Volunteers play an important role in KOMAS’ work so if you have the time, energy and skills to share, there are various things you can be involved in KOMAS’ programmes.

Host a Screening

Organise a screening and share our films with your community. Bring the voices of the marginalized to your living rooms, classrooms, lecture halls, places of worship, flats, community centers, or theatres to hold lively discussions and inspire action to promote human rights!

  • Something racist in the media or on the internet
  • Physical harm, Abuse, Damage and Discrimination
  • Provocative displays. Anything on sign board? Wall?

Who We Are

Pusat KOMAS (known as KOMAS) is a human rights organization in Malaysia which was established in 1993. KOMAS has been actively promoting equality and the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination in Malaysia.

The recent scholarship advertisement by Pantai Hospital Sungai Petani has drawn criticisms for its preference for people from specific ethnic groups. Pusat KOMAS would like to commend Pantai Hospital Sungai Petani’s swift actions to address the issue.

 

Draft of Residential Tenancy Act a Fresh Impetus Towards the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

Pusat KOMAS lauds the announcement by the Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin to draft the Residential Tenancy Act, which will address racial discrimination in the property market at the launch of the National Housing Policy 2018-2025 (DRN).

Not Ratifying ICERD A Step Backwards for New Malaysia

We, the undersigned civil society organizations, are disappointed by the escalation of the ICERD reactions that have led to Pakatan Harapan’s announcement to call off the accession to the International Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD).

Malaysia Racial Discrimination Report

Launched on March 21, 2018
in conjunction with the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

KOMAS together with 7 other civil society organizations have initiated a campaign to advocate the Malaysian government to ratify the ICERD.

ICERD is the INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION ON THE ELIMINATION OF ALL FORMS OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION. The ICERD was adapted by UN general assembly in 1963 which commits its members to the elimination of racial discrimination and the promotion of equality and unity among all races.
